What Do You Want From Your Business?

What Do You Want From Your Business?

From the NAS Signature System

Running a business can easily become a cycle of customers, deadlines, staff, cash flow, tax and whatever needs your attention next.

You can be incredibly busy keeping everything moving and still rarely stop to ask a more fundamental question:

What do you actually want your business to give you?

For some owners, the answer is more profit or greater financial security. For others, it might be better customers, clearer direction, a stronger team, more time away from the business, or simply feeling more in control.
There is no single right answer.

That is the thinking behind the NAS Signature System, our framework for looking at three connected areas of a business: Money, Business and Structure.
Money is about whether the business is giving you the financial reward, revenue and cash flow you want.
Business looks at where you are heading, who you want to work with, what you want to offer and whether your plans support the business you actually want to build.
Structure considers how the business runs day to day: its rhythm, roles, responsibilities and processes, and how much still depends on you personally.

These areas are closely connected. A cash flow problem may actually begin with pricing or customer mix. A growth problem may be caused by weak structure. And a business can be financially healthy while still demanding far more time and energy from its owner than they want to give.

One question to consider:
If you could improve just one thing about your business over the next 12 months, what would it be?

You may be perfectly happy with the business you have and simply want us to keep your accounts, tax and compliance running smoothly. That is absolutely fine.

But if there is something you would like to improve, the Signature System gives us a practical way to explore what is getting in the way and where to focus first.

Over the coming months, we will look more closely at different parts of Money, Business and Structure, using practical questions to help you think about your own business and what, if anything, you would like to change.
