Did you know you can now remove more of your personal information from Companies House records?
As part of ongoing reforms to improve privacy and reduce the risk of identity theft, directors, company secretaries, people with significant control (PSC), and LLP members can now apply to remove additional personal details from the public register.
At Naylor Accountancy Services, we help business owners stay compliant with Companies House requirements while protecting their personal information wherever possible. Whether you’re updating existing filings or applying for removals, our team can make the process straightforward.
What’s Changed
Since 21 July 2025, the scope of what can be removed has expanded. Previously, only home addresses could be withheld. Under the new rules, individuals can now also apply to take down:
- The day part of their date of birth
- Signatures
- Business occupation
This change forms part of the government’s wider corporate transparency reforms.
What Information Must Stay on Record
If you’re still a director of a live company, you’ll need to provide Companies House with a correspondence address. This ensures that regulators and other authorities can reach you when necessary.
If you’re no longer appointed to a company, a correspondence address is not required, and only the first half of your postcode will be visible to the public.
How to Apply
Applications are made using form SR01, with a fee of £30 per document where information is being removed.
This allows directors and others to go back and request the removal of personal details from historic filings — not just new ones.
Update on Home Address Rules
There’s also good news for those using a home address as their company’s registered office.
Previously, these directors couldn’t remove their residential details from the register. That restriction has now been lifted, meaning even those using their home as a registered office can now protect their private address.
Why This Matters
The Companies House register remains an important tool for transparency — but this update strikes a better balance between public accountability and personal privacy. It helps directors stay compliant while keeping unnecessary personal data out of public view.
