Feeling burnout from the stress of managing your business while trying to adapt to the various changes and challenges is only natural.
Burnout can manifest itself both emotionally and physically. It can lead you to feeling physically drained and less motivated (or completely demotivated) around running your business. As business owners, we know that your responsibilities can feel like they are never-ending and this can be difficult to manage sometimes.
In this article, we will share some top tips to help you avoid burnout, re-energise and boost your motivation.
Acknowledge that you need a break
Just like everyone else, it is normal to feel burnout when under constant stress and strain. The first step is recognising that you need a break. Many business owners tell themselves that they cannot afford a break and so don’t need one. Actually, it is highly beneficial to take a break and come back with your batteries fully charged.
You will be far more productive this way than if you just keep going. There are numerous ways you can recharge your batteries such as:
Plan a trip or a get together with your family or friends. Do something you love to restore your motivation, such as playing sports, going to the gym, swimming, walking, photography, painting, writing, gardening, DIY etc. Take up a new hobby or learn a new language. This change of focus can have a big impact on your energy levels.
Talk to business owners who are in the same industry as you and try to share how you are feeling. This is beneficial for both of you.
Delegate Tasks Business owners often must work on low-value tasks which can take up a considerable amount of time, such as basic administration. You can free up your time and reserve your energy for high value activities by delegating these tasks. You can do this in several ways.
Your spouse may be able to help or you may have older children at home who would benefit from work experience or be happy to help in their spare time if they are at college or university. You can outsource these tasks to a virtual personal assistance. Alternatively, you can employ someone to do these tasks for you.
There are many people looking for a part-time role that fits around their other responsibilities, if you don’t need a full-time employee.
